Marketing Blog Series

What is marketing and why does my company need it?

Every company, in any industry, needs to market their products/services but are posed with many unanswered questions on HOW to successfully market their offerings. This blog series will kick start your knowledge on how to market your company, in the modern software industry.

What is marketing?

Let's start right at the beginning, the definition of marketing according to the Oxford Dictionary (2020) is "the activity of presenting, advertising and selling a company's products or services in the best possible way". But we know marketing is a whole lot of reworking your keywords on Google Ads, copywriting for the first time, rewording your content over and over and putting up with other departments thinking all we do is 'make things look pretty.'

Why is marketing important?

But why do we endure this? Because we know marketing is a core factor in the success and growth of any company. Businesses started to realize around the 20th century that when another company starts to produce products or services that serve the same need as yours, that you need to somehow draw in the customers to choose yours. Now in 2020, marketing is more complicated than ever. Companies cannot just place a plain and simple advertisement up and expect consumers to be flooding in to buy their products or services. Your campaigns should stand out, be environmentally friendly, witty, sensitive to any worldwide news and most importantly must reflect 'who' your brand is.

You can do it!

Yes, marketing in 2020 is more complex than in the past however, there is a sort of pleasure you get from outwitting and outsmarting your competition when there are so many limitations as to what you can and cannot do. ALWAYS be one step ahead of your competitors.

We know that a business cannot succeed unless there is an awareness of the brand and their offering but how does this awareness come to be? Through the work of the marketing gurus of the world.

What are the goals of marketing?

Marketing objectives include, but are not limited to (we know some of you still get coffee for the boss); increasing sales, creating an awareness of the brand, identifying target audiences, building solid customer relationships and realizing new markets/products, which means we need marketing in order to make a business profitable, top-of-mind and trustworthy.

When you think of the types of marketing strategies (how us guru's make it happen) I'm sure many of you can identify telemarketing, digital marketing, direct selling and super old-school marketing such as newspaper adverts, but there are so many ways in which you can reach your target market and in the next few posts we will be going into detail with each strategy and why you should / should not use them in 2020.

Overall aim of marketing

In closing, if EPS didn't have marketing strategies, the developers would be making apps and no one would know about them, therefore, no one would buy them. So yes - let's talk about how to do this marketing thing and how it can increase your brand knowledge and sales.
