The move is a milestone for EPS
With the move to modern, spacious premises in Wil, EPS is entering a new era. The company, which has stood for technological innovation for over 50 years, has evolved both spatially and strategically with the move. CEO Christian Schmid talks about the challenges of the move, new working conditions and long-term goals.
Christian Schmid, the move to the new offices has been described as a milestone. What made this step necessary?
The move was the result of steady growth and the realisation that the premises on Pestalozzistrasse were becoming too small. With our 50th anniversary in 2021, it became clear that we would have more opportunities in larger offices. The search for a suitable location took two and a half years. We wanted to make sure that it would suit our employees and customers. It was also important for us to stay in Wil, as the region plays a major role for us as a company and for our employees.
What challenges did you overcome during the move?
Our top priority was to remain accessible to our customers as usual. Our home office structures, which we established during the pandemic, were very helpful in this respect. They enabled our employees to work flexibly from home and thus maintain productivity.
How did you and your team experience the relocation phase?
It was an exciting but also challenging time. We worked intensively on the new office concept. In collaboration with a New Work specialist and in workshops with the employees, we optimized the office to meet our needs.
Are there any particular innovations or customisations that you have implemented in the new offices?
Yes, we have created themed workstations where employees working on similar projects can sit together. There are also semi-fixed workstations and shared desks for more flexibility. We have also introduced cross-team guilds to promote the exchange of knowledge, for example in the areas of product ownership or mobile development.
How does the new working environment affect collaboration?
We expect that the proximity of the teams will promote communication and dialogue. Flexible workplaces allow employees to quickly adapt to new projects. Our aim is to create more agile and efficient teams that have more personal responsibility. This benefits our internal processes and our customers.
What positive effects do you expect from the new premises?
We hope for shorter response times and better collaboration. The open-plan design encourages dialogue between departments, which leads to more innovation. The new offices also offer state-of-the-art technologies that will enable us to work more efficiently.
What role will the new premises play for future customer projects
The new offices are not only a benefit for us, but also for our customers. We have created space for workshops and offer customers the opportunity to accommodate their project teams with us so that they can work together even more intensively.
What strategic goals is EPS pursuing in the coming years?
Our goal is to be recognised as a leading partner for digital transformation in Switzerland. The new offices provide us with the space to react quickly to new requirements and further expand our teams. Our guiding principle ‘Your vision, our mission’ is our guiding principle. The iterative approach that we pursue enables us to react flexibly to new findings and continuously improve our services.
